Next Saturday is the Washington Caucus. My husband and I are precinct captains. We went to a training session last week. There is so much new information that we were exposed to – necessary forms to fill out, set up procedures, tallying processes, etc. There are so many, many volunteer “man” hours that have been put into this project. I really do wonder if the effort is worth the results. How important is Washington’s vote in this election? Sure we all want to have our say, but other states hold more importance(for various reasons) and will probably make the decisions that count. By the time Washington votes on the 9th, the rest of the country will have set the stage. We vote Saturday for our delegates that then vote for the county delegates who then vote for the state delegates. The state delegates then go on to vote in the national election. There are super-delegates that aren’t committed to any specific candidate and then there is the Washington state primary. It is a very complex process and my role at the “grass-roots” level doesn’t make a ripple in the pond. Democracy certainly should be easier than this. Why can’t we all write our candidates name on a piece of paper, fold the paper in two, place it in a locked box, and have the papers counted? Brilliant idea. I should tell someone about that!
